Prof.
Dr. Edhem Eldem
Bogaziçi University
Department of History
Member of Faculty
Graduated from the Department of Political Sciences of Bogaziçi
University in 1982. After receiving his master's degree at
the same university, he completed his doctoral work in 1989
at Université de Provence, Aix Marseille I. Prof. Eldem, currently
a faculty member at the Department of History at Bogaziçi
University, has conducted extensive research at Ottoman Bank
Archives since 1989. He has published numerous books and papers
on Ottoman economic and social history in 18th and 19th centuries.

Ergun
Özen
Garanti Bank
General Manager and CEO
Graduated from the Department of Economics of the New York
State University in 1985, Mr. Özen started his career in the
research department of Is Bank, where he undertook the foundation
of the Treasury. In 1992, he joined Garanti Bank and first
worked in the Treasury Department and then undertook a managerial
position in 1994. One year later, he was appointed as the
Vice President responsible for Treasury and Investment Banking,
while attending the Advanced Management Program of Harvard
Business School. Mr. Özen is the President and C.E.O. of Garanti
Bank since April 2000.

Orhan
Silier
History Foundation
General Secretary
Graduated from the Department of Economics and Statistics
of Middle East Technical University in 1970. Taught and conducted
research at the Middle East Technical, Marburg, Bremen and
Kassel universities. He served as the founding president of
the Turkish Division of the Institute of International Social
History in Amsterdam (1987-1990) and as the Vice President
of the Conference of Historians of International Labour (1993-1999).
Silier is also a founding member of the History Foundation
and has been serving as its secretary general since 1991.

Dr. Sevket Pamuk
Bogaziçi University
Atatürk Institute and Department of Economics
Member of Faculty
After graduating from Yale University and completing his
doctoral work at University of California (Berkeley), he taught
at Ankara, Middle East Technical, Pennsylvania, Villanova,
Princeton, Michigan (Ann Arbor), Ben Gurion universities.
A board member of the International Economic History Association,
presently a faculty member at the Department of Economics
of Bogaziçi University and the Director of the Atatürk Institute,
Prof. Pamuk has published numerous books and papers on the
economic history of the Ottoman Empire and of the Republic
of Turkey.

Prof.
Dr. Murat Çizakça
Fatih University
Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences
Dean
Graduated from the Department of Economics at Leicester University
(UK) in 1968; completed his master's (1974) and doctoral (1978)
work at the University of Pennsylvania. After serving as a
member of faculty at the Department of Economics in Bogaziçi
University, he retired even though he continues to teach in
Bogaziçi on Comparative Economic and Finance History. Prof.
Çizakça assumed the position of Dean at the Faculty of Economic
and Administrative Sciences at Fatih University. Prof. Çizakça
is a member of the Advanced Research Institute of Berlin and
the author of about 50 scientific papers and 5 books published
in Turkey and abroad. His work has been cited over 100 times
internationally.

Prof.
Dr. Seyfettin Gürsel
University of Galatasaray
Department of Economics
Member of Faculty
Graduated from the Faculty of Economics (1973) and Institute
of Political Science (1974) of Grenoble University. Completed
his master's (1975) and doctoral work (1979) in economics
at Nanterre University, Paris. From 1980 to 1983, Prof. Gürsel
taught at Istanbul University, then took management posts
in the private sector. A founding member of Political, Economic
and Social Research Foundation of Turkey, currently he is
the chairman of the Department of Economics of Galatasaray
University. Prof. Gürsel is the author of several books and
papers, published in Turkey and abroad on political economy,
economic policy, labour economics and the economic history
of the Ottoman Empire and of the Republic of Turkey.
