Prize Competition for Research on History of Banking
and Finance 2004-2005
History Foundation
The History Foundation was established in 1991 by the common initiative of historians and social scientists, without any backing from a business group or wealth family. As a high-end non-governmental organization, it has organized 9 congresses, 39 symposia, 29 workshops, 5 series of talks, 27 conferences, 23 panels and 28 exhibitions. With its journals (Istanbul, Toplumsal Tarih (Social History) and New Perspectives on Turkey), the Istanbul encyclopedia and its 300 publications, the foundation fulfills a major gap in its field; with its web site (www.tarihvakfi.org.tr), its reaches friends of history.
European Association of Banking and Financial History e.V.
The European Association of Banking and Financial History e.V. e.V. was founded in November 1990 as a forum for research into banking history. The objective of the EABH is to promote dialogue between European bankers, academics and archivists, and provide a network for the exchange of ideas and experiences. The work of the EABH embraces four main areas: presentation of academic research into banking history, use of research findings for practical application in banks, exchange of information on issues and problems of bank archives, establishment and management of archives with increased public access.
As a non-profit organization, which has almost 80 member banks from European countries, EABH has developed, within a short time, into an internationally recognized organization, highly respected for its work in the field of banking history and archives. In recognition of its contribution to promoting banking history, the Association was awarded the European Culture Prize in 2001.
