Prof. Dr. Edhem Eldem

Graduated from the Department of Political Sciences of Bogaziçi University in 1982. After receiving his master's degree at the same university, he completed his doctoral work in 1989 at Université de Provence, Aix Marseille I. Prof. Eldem, currently a faculty member at the History Department of Bogaziçi University, has conducted extensive research at Ottoman Bank Archives since 1989. He has published numerous books and papers on Ottoman economic and social history in 18 th and 19 th centuries.

Ergun Özen
Garanti Bank
General Manager and CEO

Graduated from the Department of Economics of the New York State University in 1985. Started his career in the research department of Is Bank, where he undertook the foundation of a treasury department. Joined Garanti Bank in 1992. Worked at the Treasury Department. Undertook a managerial position in 1994. Appointed as the Vice President responsible for Treasury and Investment Banking in 1995, while attending the Advanced Management Program of Harvard Business School. Serves as the President and CEO of Garanti Bank since April 2000.

Prof. Ali Akyildiz

Graduated from Atatürk Educational Faculty of the History Department at Marmara University in 1985. Completed his MA and Ph.D. theses at the same university. Lived in England and Scotland in 1995 for research purposes. Won the Turkish Historical Society encouragement award. Currently teaches at the History Department of Marmara University. Since 1997 works as a redactor of the Encyclopedia of Islam of DIA. Was an academic visitor giving lectures at London and Tokyo Universities . Published numerous books and articles on the modernization and economic history of the late Ottoman Empire .

Prof. Dr. Sevket Pamuk

Graduated from Yale University. Completed his doctoral work at University of California (Berkeley). Taught at Ankara, Middle East Technical, Pennsylvania, Villanova, Princeton, Ann Arbor , Michigan and Ben Gurion Universities. Board Member of the International Economic History Association. Faculty Member at the Economics Department of Bogaziçi University . Director of the Atatürk Institute. Published numerous international prize winning books and papers on the economic history of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey . Currently serves as the President of European Historical Economics Society.

Prof. Dr. Murat Çizakça

Bahçesehir University

Graduated from the Department of Economics at Leicester University
(UK) in 1968. Completed his master's (1974) and doctoral (1978) work at the University of Pennsylvania. Served as a faculty member at the Department of Economics in Bogaziçi University for long years, and then retired. Assumed the position of Dean at the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences at Fatih University in 2001 and 2003. Serves as a full-time faculty member at the Faculty of Business Administration in Bahçesehir University since 2003. Member of the Advanced Research Institute of Berlin. Appointed as a Board Member of The International Economic History Institute in Prato, Italy in 2003. A uthor of about 50 scientific papers and 5 books published in Turkey and abroad.

Prof. Dr. Seyfettin Gürsel

Galatasaray University

Graduated from the Faculty of Economics (1973) and Institute of Political Science (1974) of Grenoble University. Completed his master's (1975) and doctoral work (1979) in economics at Nanterre University, Paris. Taught at Istanbul University between
1980 and 1983. Assumed managerial posts in the private sector. Served as the founding member of Political, Economic and Social Research Foundation of Turkey. Chairman of the Department of Economics of Galatasaray University. Author of several books and papers, published in Turkey and abroad on political economy, economic policy, labour economics and the economic history of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey.
