Modern Ottoman State, Private Property and Legislation at the 19 th Century
The emergence of "private property" as the main institution of free market economy within the Ottoman Empire coincides with the formation of nation-state and other regulations implemented in agriculture at the 19th century. In fact, the 19th Ottoman history is not the history of the "sick man", who tries to obtain the esteem of Europe but one of a region which experiences the difficulties of a modern transformation. Moreover this history is shared by other regions of the world...

Turkish Economy during the Great Depression
Turkey was affected less by the damaging effects of the great depression, which shattered many industrial countries at the beginning of the 1930's. The prices and the level of the production decreased at the same time during the depression. The downturn decreased dramatically the level of unemployment. Seyfettin Gursel will examine the case of Turkey during the depression from the point of view of a macro-economist.
