Catalog
In the catalogue, the database is made up of three principal
series:
1. The Archives: The archives
of the Ottoman Bank
2. Documentation:
A collection of documents including maps, plans, photographs,
commercial directories, covering the period concerned, from
the end of the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish republic, acquired
from various sources and digitally recorded.
3. The London
Archives: Digital copies of the archives of the Ottoman
Bank kept in the Guildhall Library, London.
After a choice between the three principal series, the required
data can be detailed up to the fifth level. The levels differ
according to the principal series. To the last level, clicking
the mention "next", a certain number of files/documents
can be displayed in alphabetical or chronological order.
On the table of the document, the following informations
are available:
-Code: The code according to file system
-Sub Code: Sub code of the file/document
-File Title: The title of the file/document
-Start date/End date: The date of the first and last
document
Clicking on the mention "Search by title",
it is sufficient to write one of the key-words used in the
required file in order to make a research from the title of
the file.
Since the most part of the registers are in French, the French
transcription is used in the classification. In order to conserve
the coherence between the files, names and first names of
persons and companies are registered in conformity with the
original transcription. Consequently it is necessary to consider
the French transcription when Turkish, Greek and Armenian
names are searched even through the files related to the republican
period (this rule is broken in some registers).
