Constitution of the Collection
The holdings of the library are gradually expanding through new acquisitions, exchanges and
donation in its specific fields. The larger part of the collection relates to the social,
economic and political history of Turkey starting from the 19th century. But the Centre,
member of the European Association of Banking and Financial History e.V., cooperates also with other bank libraries
and archives in Europe. In that sense, the library tries to be as broad as possible in scope
and includes economic and financial history and urban spaces in general with a strong
emphasis on Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa. Works related to the history of the
Ottoman Bank and its functioning are included in the collection.
The Centre follows for its regular acquisitions local or foreign well-known
publishers' catalogs. Also, it participates in auctions organised in Turkey in
order to acquire "rare books" clarifying the Ottoman period. On the other hand,
the Centre has adopted an exchange policy and collaborates with other local or
foreign centres or institutions working in the similar interest domains in order
to enrich its collection. The library is grateful to private parties or to
institutions, who would like to contribute to the development of the Library through their donations.
Classification of the Collection
The collection is classified according to international rules. The library uses Anglo-American Cataloguing
Rules II, Dewey Decimal Classification (20th ed.) and Library of Congress Subject Headings (23rd ed.).
The administration of the library and the access to the collection are enabled through a software, Yordam 2001.
The library catalog is also available on our web site.
